The National Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Livestock chaired by Hon. (Dr.) John Mutunga, conducted a stakeholder engagement with sugarcane farmers in Kwale County.

The Committee met with representatives of local Outgrowers Associations in Kwale. The meeting provided farmers with an opportunity to shed light on the financial hardships that they face.

The National Assembly’s Select Committee on Public Petitions chaired by Vice Chair Hon. Janet Siteinei (Turbo) considered a petition by Hon. Owen Baya on behalf of residents of Kilifi. The petition is in regard to the protracted adjudication and resolution of the Mnarani Sub-location. 

In his prayers, Hon. Baya asked the Committee to undertake thorough investigations into the rightful ownership of the Mnarani Land.

The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA)  in partnership with the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST) held a capacity building retreat focusing on gender, peace-building, gender-responsive budgeting and tackling gender-based hate speech.

Members discussed the pivotal role of women in shaping a more inclusive and prosperous future for Kenya. At the event, KEWOPA Members actively engaged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), recognizing their pivotal role in promoting national cohesion, integration and peaceful coexistence.

The National Assembly Public Petitions Committee chaired by Hon. Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East) conducted an inspection visit of River Athi in Mwala Constituency. This follows a petition by Hon. (Eng.) Vincent Musyoka.  

Hon. (Eng.) Musyoka initiated a project in his constituency to pump clean water from River Athi to residents' homes. However, tests carried out on the waters revealed the presence of harmful substances, rendering it unfit for human consumption.

The National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Njuguna Ndung'u, yesterday presented the maiden Budget of the Kenya Kwanza Government to the National Assembly. 

This year's Budget highlighted a strategic roadmap for the country's economic development and emphasizes key sectors that promote shared prosperity and growth.

Prof. Ndung'u, made his entrance at 2:30 pm accompanied by the Permanent Secretary State Department for National Treasury, Dr. Chris Kiptoo and the Permanent Secretary, State Department for Economic Planning, Mr. James Muhati.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker Hon. Gladys Boss has asked female legislators to be at the forefront in championing for the passage of the Two Thirds Gender Rule.

Hon. Boss said that although collective efforts are needed to achieve the principle that is enshrined in the Constitution, it is incumbent upon women in leadership positions to come out and spearhead the drive.
