Members of the National Assembly Committee on Education have raised concerns over Moi University’s financial health and its handling of a staff downsizing exercise.

The Committee, chaired by Hon. Julius Melly, met with Moi University’s Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kiplagat and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Loice Maru to interrogate the status of ongoing institutional reforms, the University’s Sh8.8 billion debt burden, union dues arrears, and the looming closure of its Coast Campus.

The National Assembly Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations has engaged the Ministry of Defence on its inquiry into the conduct of the British Army Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK).

The Committee engaged the Ministry of Defence led by PS, Hon. Patrick Mariru to provide details.

The invitation follows over a year of investigations into allegations of misconduct, of human rights violations, environmental degradation and other alleged human rights violations attributed to BATUK personnel.

The National Assembly Committee on Finance and National Planning has rejected a proposal by the National Treasury that sought to grant the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) sweeping access to personal data, including trade secrets and confidential customer information.

This decision was announced when Committee Chairperson and Molo Member of Parliament, Hon. Kimani Kuria, tabled the Committee’s report on the Finance Bill, 2025.
