The Senate Standing Committee on Education has raised concern over the state of infrastructure, learning equipment, and service delivery in Vocational Training Institutions and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in Narok County during its ongoing oversight exercise.

African parliaments must "legislate boldly" and use their oversight powers to confront methane emissions head-on, Speaker of the Senate Hon. Amason Kingi, told legislators on Thursday as Kenya opened a regional seminar on climate action in Nairobi.

The Clerk of the Senate and Secretary to the Parliamentary Service Commission, Mr Jeremiah Nyegenye, has formally welcomed African parliamentary leaders to Nairobi for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Regional Seminar on Methane Reduction, framing the gathering as a test of the continent's resolve to confront climate change.

The Senate Standing Committee on Roads, Transportation and Housing has put the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports on the spot over the escalating cost of the Talanta Stadium project, procurement procedures and ownership documentation for the multi-billion-shilling facility.

 

Appearing before the Committee, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya defended the project and assured Senators that the stadium would be completed in time ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
