The Speaker's Panel

Establishment 

1.    The Speaker’s Panel is established pursuant to Standing Order 20 of the Senate Standing Orders. The panel comprises four Senators known respectively as First, Second, Third and Fourth Panelists who are entitled to exercise all the powers vested in the Chairperson of Committees of the Whole. The Members of the Panel are nominated by the Speaker in consultation with the parliamentary party whips, after which the list is submitted to the Senate Business Committee for consideration for appointment to the panel.

The National Assembly’s Committee on Appointment Commences vetting of Persons Nominated for Appointment as Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General, and Secretary to the Cabinet. Parliamentary approval of appointments to public offices is governed by the Constitution of Kenya, the Public Appointments ( Parliamentary Approval) Act,2011 and the National Assembly Standing Orders.

The 5-day exercise is scheduled to take place in County Hall, Mini Chamber, Parliament buildings from this morning starting at 9am.
