National Assembly Speaker Hon. Moses Wetangula host Cuban delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Moses Wetangula today hosted a delegation from the Republic of Cuba who paid him a courtesy call. The delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman Waugh is in the country to attend the inauguration of the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya His Excellency Dr. William Samoei arap Ruto.

Hon. Wetangula promised to maintain the flourishing cordial relations between Kenya and Cuba, which in the last few years have seen the two countries establish cooperation in the medical field. Under the agreement, Cuban doctors came into the country to help fill gaps in county hospitals, while Kenyan doctors were sent to Cuba for specialized training.  "Cuban doctors have revolutionized the health sector in Kenya and Kenyans are happy about it," he said

Ms. Ines Waugh, on her part congratulated the Speaker and Deputy Speaker on their election. She thanked the Kenyan Parliament for the continued cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures. She also indicated her Government's willingness to continue with cooperation in health sector.

Further, Ms. Waugh extended an invitation to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker to visit Cuba to see, "the development Cuba has achieved in agriculture, health and all other sectors".

Present during the meeting were Deputy Speaker Hon. Gladys Shollei, Ag. Clerk of the National Assembly Mrs. Serah Kioko and Director Speakers Office Mr. Dishon Nyaga.
