Senate Committee on Labour Kicks Off County Visits with Kericho Leg

KERICHO, 27th October - As the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare embarked on County Visits in the Rift & Nyanza, Senators led by chair Sen Sakaja Johnson called on Kericho Governor, Prof. Paul Chepkwony at the County Government Headquarters before presiding over a meeting in Kericho County Assembly to consider a Petition to the Senate on the remuneration & recruitment of ECD Teachers. 

 

At the meeting, Sen Sakaja Johnson observed that from the proceedings there existed goodwill among the stakeholders including- Petitioners, County Executive, County Public Service Board and County Assembly Committee on Labour. He directed that a quadripartite meeting of the stakeholders be held to address the outstanding matters and submit a report to the Senate within 14 days.

 

As the Committee on Labour & Social Welfare is also mandated to consider matters related to sports, public entertainment, public amenities and recreation, it conducted a site visit to Kericho Green Stadium giving recommendations to the County Exec. on areas of improvement to make it world class and offer value to residents.

 

The final leg of the Kericho Circuit by the Committee was marked by a visit to James Finlay Kenya's office in Chepkembe where it met the Management led by Guy Chambers,  Group MD and the Kenya Plantation and Allied Workers' Union on the Statement on the Declaration of 719  Employees Redundant. 

 

Senators present included- Sen (Dr) Alice Milgo, Sen. Justice (Rtd) Stewart Madzayo and area Senator, Sen. Aaron Cheruiyot.
