COVID 19: Mixed Bag for Realization of UHC

Reduction of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) allocation by KES 11.3billion through the Supplementary (COVID-19) Estimates no. 2 for the FY 2019/2020 had cast doubt on the potential success of the programme.

In a meeting on Monday between the Senate Committee on Health chaired by Sen Michael Mbito (Transnzoia) and Ministry of Health, it emerged the pandemic has provided fresh impetus for the recruitment of interns and skilled health workers across the counties.

Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka heard this, Wednesday when he met the Ambassador of Cuba to Kenya, HE Amb Ernesto Gómez Díaz who called on him at Parliament Buildings.

The Senate Speaker also lauded the cordial relations between the two countries, appreciating Cuba’s efforts in contributing to Kenya’s realization of the Big Four Agenda, specifically the Universal Health Coverage.

The Clerk of the Senate, Mr Jeremiah Nyegenye has challenged staffers to continuously observe public ethos and values in the discharge of their service to the country.

While delivering the keynote address at the “Fourth Reading”, Nyegenye asked the meeting that brings together about 150 Staff of the Senate, to keep their eyes on the prize: the devolution promise.
