The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Justin Muturi, while making his opening remarks, led the clarion call on the media to uphold an objective and factual approach to Parliamentary coverage, in a way that promotes patriotism and nationhood.

Kenya's Delegation to Annan's Burial in Ghana Pays Last Respects ahead of Burial

ACCRA, Ghana, 12th Sept, 2018_ - The Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka Wednesday, filed past and paid last respects to the former UN Secretary General, HE Kofi Annan.

Wednesday marked the second day that the body of the late Kofi Annan lay in state at Accra International Conference Centre (AICC); with flags across the country being flown at half mast.

Speaking to journalists after paying his respects, Lusaka noted that "the air at AICC was thick and the mood sombre."

The National Assembly Proceeds on a Long Recess

The National Assembly proceeded on a short recess at the rise of the House on Thursday, 30th August, 2018, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 28(3) relating to Calendar of the Assembly. Regular sittings will resume on Tuesday, 2nd October, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. The four (4) weeks recess marks the end of the Second Part of the Second Session of the Twelfth Parliament.

Justin Muturi, was this evening unanimously endorsed, following his election as the Chairperson, the Executive Committee of the foremost Continental Parliamentary forum, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Africa Region.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Justin Muturi, last evening moved the Report of the Constitution Amendment Committee on the Motion by Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Nigeria Branch, to Amend Article 46 of the CPA Constitution.

Speaker Lusaka Makes First Official Visit to Jordan

AMMAN, JORDAN | 12th August – Parliamentary diplomacy, counterterrorism intelligence and the Big Four Agenda dominated talks as the Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka made his first official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The Senate Speaker – who is on a two-day official visit in the Kingdom, on invitation by the President of the Jordanian Senate – while meeting HE Dr. Marouf Bakhit, the Ag President of the Jordanian Senate condemned the terrorist attack that occurred late Saturday in Salt City, some 30 km west of the capital Amman.

Speakers of Parliament Attend Swearing in of Justice Ouko as Appellate Court President

NAIROBI, 26th June, 2018 – The Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka and his counterpart in the National Assembly, Hon Justin Muturi, today attended the Swearing in and Assumption of Office of Hon Justice William Ouko, as President of the Court of Appeal.

While congratulating Hon Ouko on his election and assumption of office, Speaker Lusaka noted that Kenyans took a decisive step – close to ten years ago – when they overwhelmingly voted for the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 which bequeathed the Judiciary much needed independence.

The regular sittings will resume on Tuesday, 24th July, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. The two (2) weeks recess falls within the Second Part of the Second Session of the Twelfth Parliament.

The National Assembly Resumes Sitting on Tuesday Next Week

The National Assembly is set to resume sittings on Tuesday next week, after a month’s hiatus, with the Consideration of the 2018/2019 Budget, forming the top of the House agenda. The House is expected to have its tray full with the debate on the State of the Nation Address, which took place just before the House went on recess, set to kick-start the plenary proceedings as provided for by the Standing Orders.

The 16th Annual Kenya National Prayer Breakfast took place today at Safari Park Hotel Nairobi. The Event themed National Reconciliation was co-hosted by the Speaker of the National Assembly the Hon. Justin Muturi, EGH, MP and the Speaker of the Senate, Rt. Hon. Kenneth Lusaka EGH, and MP. The Event was graced by the President of the Republic of Kenya His Excellency, Uhuru Kenyatta CGH, the President of the Republic of Somali, His Excellency, Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed, the Deputy President His Excellency, William Ruto, EGH, and the Chief Justice Hon. David Maraga.

Speaker Lusaka attends Uganda's State of the Nation Address

The Speaker of the Sente, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka, Wednesday, 6th June 2018 attended the State Opening of the Third Session of the Tenth Parliament of the Republic of Uganda and the State of the Nation Address by HE Gen Yoweri Museveni.

At the end of the address Speaker Lusaka noted that "the State of the Nation is strong and the forecast is optimistic."

 

HE Museveni's Address highlighted the Government's achievements and its future plans. 

The President announced that his Government would revive Uganda Airlines. 
 

‘Champion refugee reforms’: Speaker Lusaka urges World MPs

GENEVA, Switzerland – 26th March, 2018. Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka Monday called on MPs at the 138th Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly to spearhead migrant and refugee reforms in their countries.

While making his contribution at the Assembly attended by 751 MPs, Speaker Lusaka noted that migration reforms and refugee protection were of crucial importance but remained a thorn in the flesh of many countries.

The ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Nairobi in April 2018

The Parliament of Kenya will be hosting the 15th Regional Meeting of the African, Caribbean & Pacific-European Union (ACP-EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly (East Africa Region) in Nairobi from April 11 to 13, 2018. The meeting will convene approximately one hundred (100) Members of Parliament, drawn from fifteen East African countries within the greater African, Caribbean & Pacific Group of States, as well as the European Union (EU) Member States.

 

Deputy Speaker Commends Congressional Governance Institutes for helping Develop Capacity for Members and Staff of Parliament

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Moses Cheboi, has lauded the House Democracy Partnership (HDP), the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) for their continued collaboration with the National Assembly, which has seen them develop capacity for Members of the National Assembly and staff, indefatigably, over the years.

 

Senate, MoFA and EU Ambassadors to establish framework for devolution support

The Senate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and European Union (EU) have today agreed to form a tripartite taskforce to work on a framework that contributes to the success of devolution.

 

The development emerged today when the EU Ambassador, HE Stefano Dejak together with MoFA CAS Hon Ababu Namwamba called on the Speaker of the Senate, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka at his Parliament Buildings Office.
