MPs RUBBISH AUDITOR GENERAL’S REPORT IMPLICATING THEM IN NG-CF MISMANAGEMENT, SAY FUND ACCOUNT MANAGERS ARE TO BLAME

Members of the Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee have dismissed reports by the Auditor General Nancy Gathungu accusing MPs of alleged misuse of National Government- Constituency Development Funds in the financial year 2023/2024.

Led by the Committee’s chairman Hon. (Dr.) Gideon Mulyungi, the MPs have rubbished reports circulating in the media, alleging that over 30 MPs irregularly used Bursary funds. Explaining that MPs do not implement the usage of the said funds, the Legislators have urged the Auditors to point any shortcomings on the Fund Account Managers, who are mandated to oversee the usage of the NG-CF.

“This Committee has pronounced itself on these false allegations. We do not implement CDF; the Fund Managers should be answerable in cases of irregularities.” Stated Hon. (Dr.) Mulyungi.

Explaining that their role ends at overseeing the Fund’s usage, and not its implementation, the Legislators have resolved to summon the Auditor General to appear before it and explain the recurrent misreporting on the mismanagement and use of CDF.

“As MPs, we Audit the use of these monies by the Fund Account Managers, who are employees of the NG-CDF Board,” stated Hon. Dorothy Muthoni. “Any misappropriation squarely falls on their shoulders, not MPs.”

Emphasizing the importance of factual reporting by the Press, the Committee has questioned the motive behind the consistent misrepresentation of facts about the Fund by the office of the Auditor General in their reports.

“The reports in the Media are maligning MPs’ names, alleging loss of funds that we are not even in-charge of. The OAG should give credible information to the press,” stated Hon. Martin Pepela Wanyonyi, (Webuye East).

“For the media to consistently report on this matter implicating MPs while the actual perpetrators are the Fund Accounts Managers, points to ignorance on their part, or misinformation from the Auditors,” highlighted Hon. Innocent Obiri, MP (Bobasi).

The Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee, which is mandated to Audit the use of NG-CF and National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) has scheduled a meeting with the Auditor General, with an intention to finally put the matter to rest and ensure more accurate reports in the future.
