DEFENCE COMMITTEE SUMMONS FOREIGN AND DIASPORA AFFAIRS CS

The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee hastoday resolved to summon the Cabinet Secretary Foreign and Disapora Affairs Dr. Alfred Mutua to shed more light on his recent communication to all Diplomatic and Consular Missions to deal directly with Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) without having to go through the Ministry.

National Assembly's Agriculture Committee Questions Cabinet Secretary Over Subsidized Maize Flour Program

The National Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Livestock, headed by Hon. Dr. John Mutunga, met with the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Mithika Linturi, to discuss the subsidized maize flour program and the Strategic Food Reserve.

The inquiry comes after the Committee's scrutiny of Supplementary Estimates 1, revealing that Kshs 7.267B had been spent on the Maize flour subsidy program, with Kshs 4B paid and Kshs 3.267B outstanding.

JOINT-SITTING OF DEPARTMENTAL COMMITTEES ON FINANCE AND COMMUNICATION QUESTION FORMER TREASURY CS ON TELKOM KENYA BUYBACK

A joint sitting of the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning and the Departmental Committee on Communication and Innovation today  met the Former Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and National Planning Amb. Ukur Yatani to get information on Telkom Kenya buyback.

Amb. Yattani reassured legislators that the buyback of the Telkom Kenya Company was not only legitimate, but also in the interest of national security. 

CONTROLLER OF BUDGET SAYS COUNTIES OWE SUPPLIERS KSHS 159 BILLION IN PENDING BILLS.

The Senate Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations Chaired by Wajir Senator,Mohamed Abbas met the Controller of Budget (COB) CPA Dr. Margaret Nyakang'o,CBS over the status of pending bills in the counties .

The COB told the Senators that counties owe suppliers an accumulative Pending Bills of Kshs 157 billion by the County Executives and Kshs 1.63 billion by County Assemblies.

The Senators had invited the COB to apprise them on the status of Pending Bills and explain why these monies cannot be settled.

ZAMBIAN PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON YOUTH, SPORTS AND CHILD MATTERS BENCHMARK ON SOCIAL PROTECTION

The National assembly Committee on Social Protection chaired by Hon. Alice Ng'ang'a (Thika Town) hosted their counterparts from the Zambian National Assembly's Committee on Youth, Sports and Child matters.

The 12-Member delegation is in the country for a 4-day visit. The delegation made courtesy calls to National Assembly leadership offices before holding a meeting with the Social Protection Committee.

REQUEST FOR A STATEMENT ON THE STATUS OF BURA - MGHANGE - WERUGHA - WUNDANYI - MBALE - MTOMWAGOTI AND CHALA - NJUKINI - ILLASIT ROADS

Taita Taveta County Sen. John Mwaruma, MP, is seeking a Statement from the Standing Committee on Roads, Transportation and Housing, concerning the status of the Bura-Mghange-Werugha-Wundanyi-Mbale- Mto Mwagoti and Chala-Njukini-Illasit road.

In the Statement, the Committee should explain reason(s) leading to the disbandment of camp by the contractor of the Bura-Mghange-Werugha-Wundanyi-Mbale- Mto Mwagoti and provide a report on the status of the Chala-Njukini-Illasit road.

JLAC HOLDS PUBLIC HEARINGS ON THE STATUTE LAW MISCELLANEOUS AMENDMENTS

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee Chaired by Hon. George Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka) held public hearings with different stakeholders to consider the Statute Law (Miscellaneous) (Amendment) Bill, 2022. The Bill seeks to amend various provisions of the Statute Law including those in 18 Statuses under the purview of the Committee.

COMMITTEE REVIEWS DEFENCE MINISTRY 2021/2022 ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT

The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee has this morning reviewed the Ministry of Defence's 2021/2022  Annual Performance Report.

The Committee Chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech (Belgut) undertook this assignment in line with Article 153 (4) (b) of the Constitution and Section 10 (h) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act no. 25 of 2012.

TRANSPORT COMMITTEE HOLDS FAMILIARIZATION RETREAT WITH MINISTRY

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure held a familiarization retreat with State Departments under it's oversight preview.

The Committee Chaired by Hon. George Kariuki (Ndia) met Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure officials to deliberate on, among other issues, the mandate of key State Departments, their policy programmes and budget performance.

Hon. Kariuki said that the Committee will be particularly interested on legislative gaps and suggested likely interventions to fix the same.

NG-CDF COMMITTEE INSPECTS PROJECTS IN EMBU COUNTY

The National Assembly's Select Committee on National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) this weekend conducted inspection visits in Runyenjes Constituency, Embu County. The Committee, led by the Chairperson, Hon. Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine) was hosted by the area MP, Hon. Erick Muchangi (Runyenjes).

ENERGY COMMITTEE PROBES MINISTRY ON THE GOVERNMENT-TO-GOVERNMENT FUEL IMPORTATION DEAL

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Energy Chaired by Hon. (Eng). Vincent Musyoka held a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary and other senior officials of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to deliberate on a policy change regarding the importation of petroleum products. The proposed changes will convert the process from the current Open Tender System (OTS) to Government-to-Government arrangement. 

COMMUNICATION, INFORMATION AND INNOVATION COMMITTEE INSPECTS CONSTITUENCY INNOVATION HUBS

The Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation this week; in two separate delegations, continued its inspection visits of Constituency Innovation Hubs (CIHs). The two teams, one to the Coastal Region and, another to the Nyanza and Western regions, undertook the site tours of various hubs to, among others; ascertain the infrastructural status of the hubs, human resource capacities, equipment availability, and general functionalities of the Ajira project.
