The Mediation Committee established to reconcile differences between the National Assembly and the Senate on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025 (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025) is set to commence sittings tomorrow, Friday, June 13, 2025.

At the heart of the mediation is the contested allocation to the County Governments’ Equitable Share for the 2025/26 Financial Year. The National Assembly had proposed an allocation of Kshs. 405.1 billion, while the Senate amended the figure upward to Kshs. 465 billion, a significant increase of Kshs. 60 billion.

The Senate has proceeded on recess from Thursday, 12th June 2025, and will resume sittings on Tuesday, 8th July 2025.

During this period, there will be no plenary sittings in the Senate Chamber. However, Senators will continue to carry out their legislative and oversight responsibilities through committee work, public engagements, and constituency-related activities.

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, appeared before the Senate plenary to respond to a statement sought by Senator Eddy Oketch (Migori) regarding the death of Mr. Albert Omondi Ojwang while in police custody.
