The Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare has resolved to re-invite the management of New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) after their failure to attend today’s session—a move aimed at ending the decades-long dispute over compensation for the former employees of the creamery.

 

Sen George Mbugua, the committee's Vice-chair, stated that the re-invitation would come with strict requirements for New KCC to present an asset register, detailing the assets acquired from the former KCC, the current assets held by New KCC and the current status of those assets.

𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗦𝗘𝗘𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗔𝗫 𝗔𝗠𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗬 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗦𝗘

The National Assembly is set to consider a Bill seeking to allow taxpayers who were locked out of the programme upon its expiry on June 30, 2024 to benefit from the amnesty is set to be introduced in the House for consideration.

 The Bill will be Read for the First Time when the House resumes from its long recess in the second week of September.

 The Tax Procedures (Amendment) Bill, 2024 which was published on August 20, 2024 and seeks to extend the programme to June 2025 was submitted by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning.

The Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Capt. William Ruto, told the Senate Committee on Roads, Transportation, and Housing that the suspension of KPA's ledger accounts was executed in strict compliance with a government directive aimed at curbing rising debts.

 

"KPA is fully owned by the government, and according to Gazette Notice No. 16008 of 2022, all port services requests and payment of charges must be made through the e-Citizen gateway platform, effective 1st July 2023," Capt. Ruto informed the committee.

The Senate Public County Investments and Special Funds Committee convened today to review the financial statements of the Kitui County Textile Center for fiscal years 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2021/22. Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe appeared before the committee to address concerns regarding the center's financial performance and accountability.

The Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds, chaired by Senator Godfrey Osotsi, today, convened to scrutinise the Auditor-General's Report concerning the financial statements of the Municipality of Marsabit for the fiscal year 2022/2023. During the session, Governor Mohamud Mohammed addressed the committee regarding the audit findings.

The Bill, sponsored by Kiambu County Senator Karungo Thang'wa, seeks to establish a comprehensive legal framework for removing county officials, including governors, deputy governors, speakers, executive committee members, and secretaries. It outlines specific procedures for impeachment, removal due to incapacity, and removal through county assembly resolutions.

In a move to bolster financial accountability in county healthcare management, the Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds, led by Senator Godfrey Osotsi, held meetings with the governors of Kilifi and Kwale counties. The discussions focused on addressing various Auditor-General reports on the financial statements of health facilities and municipalities in both counties.

Turkana Central MP, Hon. Joseph Emathe has expressed concern over the slow progress of the Kawalase Flood Control Project in Turkana County.

Asking a question on the Floor of the House on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 Hon. Emathe said the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority established under Section 30 of the Water Act, 2016 is mandated to undertake the development of national public works, water works for storage of water resources and flood control, on behalf of the national Government.

In a bid to enhance transparency and accountability in public service delivery, the Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee convened a meeting with Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu. The meeting, chaired by Senator Godfrey Osotsi, focused on addressing concerns raised in a previous letter regarding audits of municipalities and Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals. Gathungu's appearance before the committee underscored the critical role of audits in ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively and efficiently.

A joint session of the National Assembly's Committee on Administration and Internal Security and the Senate's Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations today Thursday, August 15, 2024 held approval hearings for the Inspector General of Police nominee, Mr. Douglas Kanja. 

During the vetting, Mr. Kanja assured Kenyans that he will use his vast experience in the Police Service to enhance National Security. He said that his 39 years of service has equipped him to transform the police force for the benefit of all Kenyans.
