Kirinyaga County Senator James Kamau Murango, has sought a statement from the Standing Committee on Health regarding the amputation of baby Ridhwan Yasir Noor fingers at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital in a suspected case of medical negligence. 

In his statement, the Committee should explain the circumstances that led to the amputation of one year old baby Ridhwan Yasir Noor’s fingers while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital on 7th March 2023; and clarify whether the amputation was as a result of medical negligence and neglect of duty by the hospital's administration and medics.

Senator Murango requests the Committee to apprise the Senate on the steps taken, if any, by the Ministry of Health to ensure that justice is served to the victim, stating the actions that will be taken against the medical practitioners involved and provide details on the level of adherence to medical safety and precautionary measures in administration of medical care at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital;

The Senator further wants the committee to state reasons, if any, why the management of Kerugoya County Referral Hospital has not provided baby Ridhwan’s family with his medical report despite several requests from the parents.
