TACKLING ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE AT THE COAST

The Speaker of the Senate Rt Hon Amason Jeffah Kingi, today took part in a groundbreaking forum to discuss the proliferation of illicit brews, drugs and substance abuse in the Coast region.

Illicit brews, drugs and substance abuse present significant challenges in the country, occasioning loss of lives through consumption of drinks laced with chemicals and addiction that renders many incapable of engaging in productive work and exposes them to reckless lifestyles.

Coast region has been greatly affected by these vices and the meeting, convened by the Deputy President, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, sought to trace the root causes of these vices and explored avenues for eradicating them.

The Speaker assured the meeting of the commitment on the part of political leadership in the region to fully support the interventions that would be proposed in these engagements.

In attendance were Coast legislators and Governors, Cabinet Secretaries and heads of relevant Government agencies.
