A joint session of the National Assembly's Committee on Administration and Internal Security and the Senate's Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations today Thursday, August 15, 2024 held approval hearings for the Inspector General of Police nominee, Mr. Douglas Kanja. 

During the vetting, Mr. Kanja assured Kenyans that he will use his vast experience in the Police Service to enhance National Security. He said that his 39 years of service has equipped him to transform the police force for the benefit of all Kenyans.

Dagoretti MP, Hon. John Karie appeared before the Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation to present proposed amendments to the Science, Technology and Innovation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which will elevate Kenya's status in the global scientific community.

The Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife, chaired by Maara MP, Hon. Kareke Mbiuki, met with officials from the State Department for Wildlife regarding a Statement requested by Laikipia East MP, Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri on the regulation of wildlife in private conservancies.

It was a win for the National Assembly on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 as the Court of Appeal extended stay against a High Court Judgement that suspended implementation of three Health Laws, pending a ruling on application for stay of the entire Judgment of the High Court. <

The National Assembly on Thursday, August 7, 2024, debated and approved the Report by the Committee on Appointment that carried out the vetting.

In the Report one nominee, Ms. Stella Soi Lang'at - nominee CS, Gender, Culture, The Arts & Heritage was not approved for appointment.

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife in a session chaired by Kiambaa MP, Hon. John Wanjiku met with the Director General of Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA), Eng. Kungu Ndung’u to discuss an outstanding compensation to the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS).

In a robust engagement meeting, the Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, chaired by Sen. George Mbugua, convened with key stakeholders to deliberate on amendments to the Provision of Sanitary Towels Bill, 2024. The stakeholders included representatives from the State Department of Gender and The Cradle, each presenting their proposed revisions and justifications.

National Assembly Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations led by Vice Chair Hon. Bashir Abdullahi (Mandera North) met with Deputy CEO, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC),Mr. Abdi Mohamud  regarding an ongoing inquiry into the Conduct of British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK).

In the meeting, EACC disclosed that it had previously received three reports alleging various improprieties, including nepotism, corruption, and labor disputes involving BATUK personnel. However, the Commission deemed these issues beyond its purview.
