Induction of Members of the National Assembly

The induction of Members of the National Assembly of the 13th Parliament kicks off tomorrow and is scheduled to run through the week.

The exercise which involves taking the legislators through the operations and procedures of the House, is geared towards equiping them with tools to effectively execute their mandate.

NOTIFICATION OF THE FIRST SITTING OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND ELECTION OF THE SPEAKER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

WHEREAS, Article 106 of the Constitution provides that there shall be a Speaker of
each House of Parliament, who shall be elected by that House in accordance with the
Standing Orders, from among persons who are qualified to be elected as Members
of Parliament but are not such members and that the Office of the Speaker shall
become vacant when a new House of Parliament first meets after an election.

NOTIFICATION OF THE FIRST SITTING OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND ELECTION OF THE DEPUTY SPEAKER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

WHEREAS, Article 106 of the Constitution provides that there shall be a Deputy
Speaker for each House of Parliament, who shall be elected by that House in
accordance with the Standing Orders, from among members of that House and
that the office of the Deputy Speaker shall become vacant when the new House
of Parliament first meets after an election and if the office holder, as a member
of the relevant House vacates office under Article 103.

National Assembly staff set in motion preparations for the 13th Parliament

The staff of the National Assembly of Kenya have kicked off preparations in earnest for the orientation of the newly elected Members of the National Assembly and for the inception of the 13th Parliament. 

Speaking to staff this morning, the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly Ms. Serah Kioko, and the Deputy Clerk, Mr. Jeremiah Ndombi noted that a good number of the elected Members will be serving their first term hence the need to prepare adequately for their orientation and induction into the House operations.

Change of Guard at the National Assembly as Clerk Sialai hands over

The outgoing Clerk of the National Assembly Mr. Michael Sialai has officially handed over to his successor, Acting Clerk Ms. Serah Kioko. The handover ceremony took place this morning during a National Assembly Board of Management meeting. This follows Ms. Kioko’s appointment by the Parliamentary Service Commission to assume the roles of the Clerk of the National Assembly in acting capacity in place of Mr. Sialai whose tour of duty ends on July 31, upon retirement.
