THE HANSARD ASSOCIATION OF KENYA CONFERENCE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Hansard Association of Kenya wishes to thank the following for their continued support towards the realization of the dream which was conceived early in 2014; namely,

Speaker Lusaka, CAF’s Osoi upbeat on collaboration to deliver devolution promise

The Speaker of the Senate, Sen Kenneth Lusaka and the Chair of the County Assemblies Forum (CAF), Hon Johnson Osoi today met and agreed to work together to encourage collaboration and camaraderie between the institutions they head.

Speaker Lusaka and Chair Osoi agreed that stronger relations between their two institutions were pivotal to the contribution of the realization of the full promise of devolution.

“The Senate and the County Assemblies need to strengthen their relations: with the Senate acting as the ‘big brother’ of the 47 assemblies,” Speaker Lusaka noted.

Indian High Commissioner pays a courtesy call on Speaker Lusaka

Senate Speaker Sen Kenneth Lusaka today met HE Suchitra Durai, the High Commissioner of India to Kenya who called on him at his Parliament Buildings Office.

At the meeting, Speaker Lusaka told the High Commissioner that there was need for Kenya and India to deepen cooperation especially on health and capacity development.

“India has enjoyed a lot of medical tourism from the Kenyan people – with focus being on treatment using modern medicine. I however believe that Kenya can learn a lot from India on traditional medicine,” observed the Senate Speaker.

Speaker Lusaka: Government Committed to Root out Corruption

The Speaker of Senate, Sen Kenneth Lusaka today presented a paper on efforts by the Kenyan Government toward combating corruption. He was speaking at the 7th Session of the Conference of State Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in Vienna, Austria.

The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, National Assembly Bills No. 39 of 2017

The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, National Assembly Bills No. 39 of 2017 was read a First Time on Wednesday, 11th October, 2017 and committed to the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2017 for consideration pursuant to standing order 134 of the Senate Standing Orders.

Speaker Lusaka Assures Women Senators of Support

The Speaker of Senate, Sen Kenneth Lusaka today held a meeting with China’s Ambassador to Kenya, H. E. Dr. Liu Xianfa. The Chinese Ambassador had paid a courtesy call to the Speaker at Parliament Buildings and expressed his country’s desire to continue working with the Senate. The Speaker noted that Kenya and China enjoyed a cordial relationship citing the bilateral relationship between the two countries.  

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Justin Muturi hosts Parliamentary Delegation from the Islamic Parliament of Iran.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Justin Muturi, this afternoon met with the Parliamentary Delegation from the Islamic Parliament of Iran led by the chairman HE Ahmad Salek Kashani and MPs the Islamic Parliament of Iran who are Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture. The Islamic Republic of Iran Ambassador to Kenya HE (Dr) Hadi Farajvan and the Embassy's Counsellor for Culture Mr. Mahmoud Majlesain accompanied the delegation.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Justin Muturi hosts the Arab's Parliament Special Envoy, Hon. Soufien Toubal.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Justin Muturi, earlier this morning had a fruitful meeting with the Special Envoy of the Arab Parliament Hon. Soufien Toubal who delivered a message of goodwill from President of the Arab Parliament H.E. (Dr) Mishal F. Sulami.

The Speaker and the envoy reiterated the need for further engagement between the Arab Parliament and the PAN - African Parliament, and further suggested stronger ties between the Kenyan Parliament and the Tunisian Parliament, where Hon. Soufien Toubal comes from.

The Joint Select Committee on Election-Related Laws Public Hearings

The Joint Select Committee on Election-Related Laws has commenced Public Hearings in regards to the two Bills that are currently before the two Houses.

The committee co-chaired by Baringo North MP, Hon. William Cheptumo and Isiolo Senator, Sen. Fatuma Dullo has been conducting hearings in accordance with Article 118, that provides for public participation in the Legislative Process.

The National Assembly resumes sittings after a one month recess

The National Assembly resumes sittings after a one month recess. This is the last sitting for the 11th parliament ahead of the next general elections slated for August 8, 2017. Members are expected to hold sittings for the next one month until June 15,2017 when the House is expected to adjourn Sine Die (indefinitely). The Senate on the other hand will resume on June 13 and sit for three days until June 15, 2017 before adjourning indefinitely. Global action on the drought and famine situation received a major boost yesterday when a proposal for Emergency Motion on Urgent international action to save millions of people from famine and drought in parts of Africa and Yemen was adopted for debate at the Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) currently taking place in Dhaka, Bangladesh that brings together about 700 legislators from 132 countries.
