The National Assembly has invited the members of the public to submit their written views on three Bills.

Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, vide a notice published on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 has called on members of the public to submit Memoranda on the Breastfeeding Mothers Bill, 2024 , the Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Public Relations and Communication Management Bill, 2024.

The Breastfeeding Mothers Bill, 2024, sponsored by nominated MP, Hon. Hon. Sabina Chege underwent the First Reading on Thursday, May 2, 2024 before being committed to the Departmental Committee on Social Protection for review.

The Bill seeks to provide a legal framework for mothers who may wish to breastfeed their children at the workplace by compelling employers to provide lactation rooms. It also requires offices, public restaurants and public bathrooms to have facilities that can be used by mothers to provide their children with other forms of care.

The Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2024, sponsored by Kilifi North MP, Hon. Owen Baya was published on Wednesday, March 8, 2024 and read for the first time on Thursday, May 2, 2024 before being committed to the Departmental Committee on Education.Β 

The Bill seeks to make amendments to the Universities Act, 2012 by giving the President the powers to appoint Chancellors of public universities.Β 

The Public Relations and Communication Management Bill, 2024 sponsored by Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu) seeks to provide for a legal framework for the promotion, development and regulations of the Public Relations and Communication Management Profession.

Β β€œIn compliance with Article 118(1) (b) of the Constitution and Standing Order 127(3), the Clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites the public and stakeholders to submit memoranda on the Bills to the respective Departmental Committees”, read part of the notice.

The memoranda should be hand-delivered to the Office of the Clerk, at the Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi or emailed toΒ cna@parliament.go.keΒ on or before Monday, June 3, 2024 at 5.00 p.m.
