Nairobi will be host to more than 20 African Heads of States and other delegates who converge in the city for the Inaugural Africa Climate Summit.

The Summit that kicks off today 4th September, 2023 runs uptoΒ  6th, September, 2023. It coincides with African Climate Week, and is aimed at addressing the increasing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, both globally and in Africa.

It will provide an opportunity to highlight and forge consensus on the modalities of unlocking Africa's vast potential to positively impact the climate agenda.

The Africa Climate Exhibition will serve as a platform to showcase global solutions, innovations, and projects aimed at mitigating climate change challenges.Β

Exhibitors from around the world will participate, providing an opportunity for attendees of the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week to interact, learn, and adopt practical solutions to climate change.

Key to note during the three day Summit will be the Parliamentarians Dialogue which will provide a platform for discussing the role and potential contribution of Parliaments to climate action.Β

Additionally, it will interrogate the implementation pathways from the perspective of legislatures for the delivery of the commitments made during the Summit.

Members of Parliament will deliberate on how they can collaborate with relevant stakeholders among them local communities, industry representatives, and Civil Society Organisations to foster an inclusive and participatory energy transition and to better understand the concrete benefits that renewable energy would have for communities in rural and urban settings.

National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang'ula said, it will be a great honour forΒ  Kenya to host the Summit that will bring together thousands of delegates from across Africa.Β

"Parliaments across Africa have a key role to play in the fight against climate change and issues on how to involve the Parliamentarians should be among the agenda if AfricaΒ is to make progress in mitigation of climate change effects," said Speaker Wetang'ula.
