The Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds (CPISFC) led by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi met today to address concerns raised in the Auditor-General's Reports regarding the financial statements of three water companies in Nyeri County today.

The reports covered the fiscal years 2018/19, 2019/20, and 2020/21. The three water companies under review were Mathira Water and Sanitation Company Limited, Tetu Aberdare Water and Sanitation Company Limited, and Mutitu Water and Sanitation Company Limited.

The CPISFC made several significant resolutions during the meeting:

Firstly, the Committee expressed disappointment that auditors from the Nyeri Regional Hub, responsible for auditing the water companies in Nyeri County, failed to attend the meeting due to the water companies' failure to submit management responses. In order to enhance transparency and accountability, the Committee directed that auditors from regional hubs must consistently attend meetings, regardless of circumstances.

Secondly, concerns were raised about the ownership of Mutitu Water and Sanitation Company Limited, as it remained unclear. The Committee called upon the County Government of Nyeri to provide comprehensive background information and the current status of the water company within seven days from the meeting date. Additionally, the secretariat was tasked with preparing a brief on this matter to guide future actions.

Lastly, due to the absence of auditors from the regional hub, the Committee decided to adjourn the meeting until Monday, October 9, 2023. This postponement will allow for the necessary information and responses to be collected, ensuring a more informed discussion during the rescheduled session.
