The Ministry has publishedΒ eightΒ regulations that have been submitted to the National Assembly for consideration to the requirements under the Statutory Instruments Act.

Β These regulations are; the Fisheries Management and Development (Beach Management Units) Regulations 2024; the Fisheries Management and Development (Inland Fisheries) Regulations 2024; the Fisheries Management and Development (Recreational Fisheries) Regulations 2024; the Fisheries Management and Development (Marine Fisheries) Regulations 2024; the Fisheries Management and Development (General) Regulations 2024; the Fisheries Management and Development (Safety and Quality) Regulations 2024; the Fisheries Management and Development (Aquaculture) Regulations 2024; and the Fisheries Management and Development (Fish Levy Trust Fund) Order 2024.

Β Members highlightedΒ a number ofΒ areas of concern amongst them; the licensing fees and procedures, regulation of subsistence fishing, the roles of the National and County Governments in enforcing the regulations, modalities to strengthen the management of fish landing stations, and the economic benefits Kenya can draw from inland fishery resources.

Β The Committee noted that there was the need for continuous consultation in the formulation of regulations and subsequent implementation of the regulations.
