The Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife, chaired by Hon. Kareke Mbiuki (Maara) met with Principal Secretary for Tourism, Mr. John Ololtuaa, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tourism Promotion Fund, Mr. Stephen Kinyanjui, and Tourism Fund Ag. CEO, Mr. David Mwangi to assess the budget implementation for the Financial Year 2022/2023 and 2023/2024.

During the meeting, the PS Ololtuaa provided the Committee with updates on various issues within the tourism sector, including meeting targets, strategic planning, and the revitalization of Kenya's tourism industry.

Mr. Kinyanjui on the other hand presented financial and non-financial information on the budget implementation for the Fiscal Year 2022/2023 and 2023/2024. The Tourism Promotion Fund aims to support the development, promotion, and branding of the tourism sector through various implementing agencies.

During the Financial Year 2022/2023, the Fund exceeded its revenue target of KShs.4.68 billion by Kshs.270 million. This success was attributed to collaborative efforts with a multi-agency Government inspection team, the implementation of intelligence-led data mapping, and streamlined processes facilitated by an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and payment portal.

The Committee, however, expressed concerns over the KShs.288 million disbursed to the Tourism Fund by the Tourism Promotion Fund for the development of the coastal circuit entertainment niche product, entertainment hubs, street lighting, and marketing.Β
