The Senate is set to convene this Thursday, 27th November 2025, to consider the impeachment charges levelled against Nyamira Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo. This follows an official notice issued by the Speaker of the Senate, Amason Jeffah Kingi, in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya, the County Governments Act and the Senate Standing Orders.

Β

In the notice dated 26th November 2025, Speaker Kingi invoked Article 181 of the Constitution, section 33(3)(a) of the County Governments Act and Standing Order 80(1)(a), formally inviting Senators to a special sitting dedicated to hearing the charges placed before the House. The session is scheduled to begin at 2.30 p.m., marking a crucial stage in the impeachment process that was triggered by a resolution of the Nyamira County Assembly.

Β

The House will decide whether to establish a special committee to handle the case or to have it heard in plenary.

Β

Senators will have the opportunity to examine the allegations against Governor Nyaribo, which are expected to reflect issues raised by the County Assembly in its impeachment motion. The Senate will listen to evidence presented by both the County Assembly and the Governor’s defence team before making a determination as to whether the charges meet the constitutional threshold for removal from office.
