National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangโula has acknowledged that Kenya and Germany share a long-standing history of cordial diplomatic engagement anchored in mutual respect and progressive development cooperation.
Speaker Wetangโula has raised concerns on the prevailing immigration challenges being witnessed in parts of the world, including Minnesota in the United States.
โKenya implores Germany to robustly leverage its influential voice within the European Union to promote coordinated, humane, and sustainable migration responses across Europe and beyond, in the interest of global orderโ, noted Dr. Wetangโula.
He was speaking while engaging with Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs from the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, led by the Deputy Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Ms. Derya Turk-Nachbaur, at Parliament Building on Wednesday, 21st January 2026.
The Rt. Hon Speaker urged the Committee to prioritize urgent issues affecting peace and stability in the world. He says urgent global issues need to be discussed, including the critical role of Parliaments in formulating forward-looking migration policies aimed at restoring global peace, stability, and order.
"Kenya and Germany should fast-track the operationalization and full implementation of the Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement, which came into force in September 2024," says Speaker Wetangโula.
He noted that this framework is instrumental in facilitating structured employment opportunities for skilled Kenyan professionals in Germany while addressing labour market needs in a mutually beneficial manner.
Wetangโula emphasized the strengthening of Parliamentary diplomacy between Kenya and Germany, which will further enhance strategic synergies across key sectors, including education, technology, agriculture, security, and trade.
ย Speaker Wetangโula explained that this will deepen both bilateral and multilateral relations and advance shared development objectives.
โWhat is going on in America is the worst form of humanity. Hooded individuals get into people's homes and deport people without bothering to understand whether they are Citizens or not. The regime is locking doors for immigrants, yet America itself is an immigrant nation," said Hon. Wetangโula.
He said Germany should speak out. "As a member of the EU, you have wealth, experience, and work in an organized manner." he added.
He further noted that whatever is happening in Palestine is unthinkable. "We have denounced what is happening there; it is actually genocide. Two wrongs don't make a right," exclaimed Speaker.
The Hon. Speaker called for German to come forward and speak against such atrocities. "We speak of World War of 1945, but we must also speak of Gaza Genocide."
Germany Deputy Member of Foreign Affairs Committee Ms. Derya Turk-Nachbaur says Kenya remains a regional economic pillar and plays a role in the Region's stability.
"Kenya has a strong Constitutional framework and institutions like its Parliament."
She indicated that compared to neighbouring countries, Kenya has made major strides in devolution and Constitutionalism and political maturity.
The Speaker was in the company of Members of the Departmental Committee of Defense, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations, led by Hon. Nelson Koech who called for continued collaboration in key sectors, including security and foreign relations.
โWhy are you quiet about the sufferings of immigrants in America? Kenya is more democratic than more developed countries, with a youthful population that is expected to register as voters and participate in the electoral processโ, noted Hon. Bashir.
