The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture has called for urgent action to resolve the outstanding bills accumulated in the State Departments and Agencies.

The Committee, chaired by Hon. Dan Wanyama, warned the Departments that hiding behind pending bills points to planning and budgeting inefficiencies.

RISING PUBLIC DEBT THREATENS PRIVATE SECTOR GROWTH, STAKEHOLDERS WARN 

The National Assembly’s Committee on Public Debt and Privatisation has raised concerns over the impact of rising public debt and increased domestic borrowing on private-sector growth, with stakeholders warning that businesses are being squeezed out of the credit market.

The committee, chaired by Hon. Abdi Shurie (Mbalambala), made the remarks during the opening of a three-day Multisectoral Forum on Public Debt Management, organised in partnership with the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

The National Assembly has adopted a motion by Nyeri County MP, Hon. Rahab Mukami, seeking the introduction of mandatory guidance and counselling programmes in all primary and secondary schools in Kenya.

The motion highlights growing social, psychological and behavioural challenges among learners, including drug and substance abuse, indiscipline, school unrest and academic underperformance.
