The inaugural Africa Parliamentary Researchers Conference

The inaugural African Parliamentary Researchers Conference brings together research officers serving in Parliaments in Africa at both the national and sub-national levels.  Invitation to the Conference is open to Researchers serving in National Parliaments and in State, Provincial or County Legislatures as well as other interested research institutions, local Universities and individual researchers. 

East African Parliamentary Institute Launched

The East African Community and Kenya in particular, today celebrated a great milestone as Speakers and their representatives from the regional legislatures met in Nairobi to witness the launch of the East African Parliamentary Institute.

THE 6TH ANNUAL DEVOLUTION CONFERENCE SCHEDULED TO BE HELD IN KIRINYAGA COUNTY 4TH - 8TH MARCH, 2019

The Council of Governors (COG) in collaboration with the Senate and other stakeholders is scheduled to hold its 6th Annual Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga County - Kirinyaga University from March 4th -8th, 2019. The Conference will bring together key players and stakeholders to reflect on the devolution journeys and milestones achieved over the last five years and chart a way forward on how to make devolution successful.

Parliament resumes after long recess

Parliament has resumed this afternoon with both Houses sitting after the long recess that started on December 6, 2018. Both Houses had only one agenda on the Order paper. In the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale moved a motion seeking to add seven new members into the House Business Committee that is charged with formulating business for the House. He was seconded by Minority Leader John Mbadi. The seven are in addition to those designated as members of the committee by virtue of their leadership positions in the House.

Mau Mau War Veterans Association Seeks Legal Recognition

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Michael Sialai has this afternoon received a petition from officials of the Mau Mau War Veterans Association, seeking leave to introduce a private bill that will recognise the role of freedom fighters in the struggle for Kenya's independence.

The officials led by former Juja MP, Shujaa Hon. Dr. Gitu Kahengeri, an acclaimed freedom fighter, intend to introduce the "Mau Mau Liberation Struggle, Movement Bill, 2018" for consideration by the National Assembly.

Regional CPA Africa Heads Meet over Constitutional Reforms

The sub-regional representatives of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Africa Region, are currently meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in an Executive Committee meeting held in a bid to capture the intent of the resolutions of the 49th CPA Africa Annual General Meeting, held in Gaborone, Botswana in August 2018. Key among their focus areas is the review of Article 46 of the CPA Africa Region, Constitution which provides for equity and balance in the distribution of the Offices of the Association among the sub-regions.

Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi in Parliament

Mozambique  President Filipe Nyusi today laid a wreath at the Mausoleum of the founding President the late mzee Jomo Kenyatta at the precincts of Parliament. He was received by  House leaders led by Speakers Justin Muturi (National Assembly) and Kenneth Lusaka (Senate). Also present was Majority Leader Aden Duale, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko among others.
