REQUEST FOR STATEMENT ON THE LIASON OF DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR MISSIONS WITH THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT’S OFFICE.

Migori County Senator Sen. Eddy Oketch , is seeking a Statement from the standing Committee on National Security ,Defence and Foreign Relations on the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs directive to diplomatic and consular mission to liaise with the officer of the Deputy President on issues of a cross cutting nature that involves more than one Ministry.

In his statement , the Committee should state the specific cross-cutting issues the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs is referring to in its directive to diplomatic mission to liaise with the Deputy President’s office , stating how the decision to involve the Deputy President’s office in these meetings was reached; the Committee to state the role the Ministry will play in facilitating communication between diplomatic mission and the Deputy President’s office, disclosing whether there will be any additional resources allocated to the Deputy President’s office to manage these meetings.

Migori Senator in his Statement wants the committee to apprise the Senate on concerns if any , on potential conflict of interest arising from the involvement of the Deputy President’s office in these meetings, stating how these conflicts will be addressed; the committee should state whether diplomatic missions will be required to report back to the Ministry on the outcome of these meetings with the Deputy President’s office, stating the form this reporting will take.

Senator Eddy in his Statement added that the committee to state measures, if any that the Ministry has put in place to ensure that the involvement of the Deputy President’s office does not impede the independence, autonomy , integrity and impartiality of diplomatic missions in their work on cross cutting issues.
