The National Assembly has received a message from the President nominating Mr. Kosiom Frank ole Kibelekenya for appointment as Ambassador to Copenhagen, Kingdom of Denmark.
In a communication delivered to the House, the Speaker announced that the nomination was made pursuant to Article 132(2)(e) of the Constitution of Kenya, read together with Sections 20(2) and 22(2)(a) of the Foreign Service Act (Cap. 185E).
โThe President, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Constitution and the Foreign Service Act, has nominated Mr. Kibelekenya for appointment as Ambassador to Copenhagen. The President now seeks the approval of the National Assembly for the said appointment,โ the Speaker conveyed.
In line with Standing Order 45, the nomination has been referred to the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations for vetting and consideration. The Committee will review the nomineeโs qualifications, curriculum vitae, and testimonials before tabling its report for debate and approval by the House.
Although the Foreign Service Act does not specify timelines for the vetting of ambassadorial nominees, the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (Cap. 7F) requires that such processes be completed within 28 days.
โAccordingly, the Departmental Committee is expected to commence the approval process immediately, notify the nominee and the public of the time and place for the approval hearing, and table its report by Thursday, 12th March 2026,โ the Speaker guided.
