All is set for the 2026 Nyeri National Agricultural Show, with Parliament preparing a wide range of activities aimed at bringing its work closer to the people and highlighting its constitutional mandate.

Parliament is set to use the annual Central Kenya Agricultural Society of Kenya (A.S.K) Show as an opportunity to showcase the important role it plays in Kenya’s governance, particularly in legislation, representation and oversight.

The agricultural show is scheduled to take place at the Kabiruini Showgrounds in Nyeri County from 9th to 13th September 2026, bringing together farmers, students, entrepreneurs, professionals, businesses and the public.

Leading Parliament’s exhibition will be Commissioner and Chairman of the Parliamentary Service Commission Committee on Outreach and Public Engagement who is also the Nyeri County Senator Wahome Wamatinga. The exhibition will bring together both Houses of Parliament, the National Assembly and the Senate to demonstrate their respective constitutional roles and responsibilities.

The parliamentary exhibition will focus on the institution’s three key constitutional functions, legislation, representation and oversight. It will also highlight Parliament’s contribution to developing policies and laws that influence agriculture, food production, agribusiness and the livelihoods of millions of Kenyans.

In line with the theme of connecting Parliament with the people, the exhibition will provide an interactive platform where members of the public can engage directly with parliamentary officials. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about how Parliament works and how they can participate in the legislative and governance processes.

The exhibition will also introduce visitors to the work of the Parliamentary Service Commission, the National Assembly and the Senate, while explaining the distinct constitutional mandates of the two Houses within Kenya’s bicameral Parliament.

Parliamentary officers will be on hand throughout the event to respond to questions and provide accurate information on parliamentary procedures, legislation, oversight and public participation. The initiative is expected to strengthen public awareness and encourage greater citizen involvement in governance.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, 10th September 2026. As part of the programme, Parliament will host a round table engagement involving Members of Parliament, the Media and Kenyans participating online. The discussion will examine pressing issues affecting the agricultural sector and explore how Parliament can help address these challenges through effective legislation, representation and oversight.

Young people will also take centre stage, with schools expected to participate in mock parliamentary debates. The sessions will introduce students to democracy, leadership, law making and the role of Parliament in Kenya’s governance system.

Through its presence at the Nyeri A.S.K show, Parliament seeks not only to showcase its work but also to strengthen its relationship with citizens and demonstrate how their voices can contribute to shaping the laws and policies that affect their daily lives.

The Nyeri A.S.K show comes just days after Parliament clinched a win at the Mombasa A.S.K show for Best Stand Promoting National Cohesion and secured third place for Best Governance Social Functions.
