The National Assembly has passed the National Land Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2023, for the second time, fully accommodating President reservations. The amendment restore the Commission’s mandate to review historical land allocations and address injustices, while introducing safeguards and time limits.

Homa Bay County will this week become the focal point of Kenya’s governance calendar as the Senate takes the lead in shaping the future of devolution at the 2025 Devolution Conference. The four-day event, running from Tuesday 12th to Friday 15th August at Homa Bay High School is expected to reinforce the Senate’s Constitutional mandate to protect County Governments and promote equitable development.

The Kenya Roads (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2025 (National Assembly Bill No. 16 of 2025) has been signed into law.

The principal object of the Bill now Act is to amend section 13(3) of the Kenya Roads Act, Cap. 408, to align the term of offices of Director-Generals of various roads authorities with the Mwongozo Code of Governance for State Corporations.

The Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations held a session with the Governor of Kiambu County earlier today to deliberate on the municipality of Thika’s application for elevation to city status. 

During the session, Governor Kimani Wamatangi outlined the County’s justification for the application, emphasizing Thika’s financial viability, governance structures, and the capacity to deliver services required of a city.
