A Senate watchdog committee has fined Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja Sh500,000 and ordered his arrest for contempt of Parliament.

 

The County Public Accounts Committee directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to arrest the governor and present him before the committee on Monday, March 30, after finding him guilty of failing to honour multiple summons.

Kenya will meet all its obligations ahead of the African Cup of Nations tournament scheduled for 2027, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya has told the Senate.

 

Appearing before the Senate Plenary on Wednesday to respond to questions from Lawmakers, CS Mvurya assured the House and Kenyans that the Government has put in place the necessary measures to ensure all requirements are met ahead of the tournament.

The Senate Committee on Labour and Social Welfare has heard that the Technical University of Kenya’s (TUK) staff pension scheme is only 13% funded, exposing hundreds of current and retired employees to steep losses unless billions in unpaid contributions are recovered.
