The National Assembly approved the Agricultural and Livestock Extension Services Bill (Senate Bill No. 12 of 2022) on June 10, 2026, paving the way for a more coordinated, technology-driven and farmer-centred agricultural extension system aimed at improving productivity, increasing incomes and strengthening food security across the country.

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs (JLAC) has held a consultative meeting with officials from the Office of the Registrar of Polical Parties; led by the Registrar Mr. John Lorionokou.

The meeting is in furtherance of ongoing consultative efforts by the Committee to ensure adequate preparation by key stakeholders ahead of next year's General Election.

The Rift Valley region has recorded the highest number of illicit alcoholic brews seized in the country between January 2024 and May 2026, according to data presented to the Public Petitions Committee by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Eliud Lagat.

National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Hon. John Mbadi has reiterated the Government's commitment to steering the Kenyan economy through stability amid the raging global tensions that have had corresponding economic shockwaves.

Addressing a joint sitting of Parliament today as he presented the Budget Policy Highlights for the 2026/27 FY, Hon. Mbadi reiterated that policies set out in the 2026/27 Budget were anchored on policies steered through attaining economic stability amid the uncertain global economic space.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Hon. John Mbadi has delivered the Budget Statement for the FY 2026/27 before the National Assembly.

According to the CS, the proposed national budget for the Fiscal Year which stands at 4.82trillion, captures the ideals of both President William Ruto and the Late Raila Omollo Odinga on their aspiration to transform the country’s economy from current status to a more developed nation status.

Senators have pressed the government to strengthen safeguards for thousands of young Kenyans seeking jobs abroad, raising concerns over delayed loan disbursements, fraudulent recruitment agencies, emergency repatriation mechanisms and the protection of workers in foreign countries.

The Senate Standing Committee on Education, Chaired by Sen. Betty Montet, today held a consultative meeting with the Governor of West Pokot County, H.E. Former civil servants have petitioned the National Assembly to intervene in what they describe as a discriminatory pension system that has left thousands of retirees struggling with inadequate benefits amid rising living costs.

The petition, presented to the House by Speaker Moses Wetang'ula on 4th June 2026, was submitted by Mr. John Serem, Eng. Richard Bett and Mrs. Olive Chepkoech on behalf of the Kenya National Association of Public Service Pensioners, Kericho Branch.

The Senate, Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) have called for urgent reforms to improve county competitiveness, reduce bureaucratic barriers and create a more attractive environment for investment and job creation.

 

Speaking during a roundtable between the Senate Liaison Committee and KEPSA in Naivasha, Clerk of the Senate Mr Jeremiah Nyegenye said the forum had become an important platform for shaping policies and legislation that influence business growth and livelihoods in counties.

The Mediation Committee co-chaired by Hon. Samuel Atandi and Sen. (Capt.) Ali Roba has begun deliberations aimed at breaking the deadlock between the National Assembly and the Senate over the proposed allocation of revenue to county governments in the Division of Revenue Bill, 2026.

At the centre of the stalemate is the equitable share allocation to counties. While the National Assembly approved Kshs 420 billion, the Senate amended the Bill to increase the allocation to Kshs 454.7 billion, citing growing financial obligations facing county governments.

The National Assembly has approved the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure and the Medium Term for the Financial Year 2026/2027, unveiling a people-centred budget aimed at strengthening social protection, expanding essential services, and advancing fiscal discipline.

Senators have questioned the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over the impact of multiple taxes on fuel prices, with some lawmakers calling for tax reductions and the suspension of certain levies to ease the cost of living burden on Kenyans.

 

Appearing before the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, KRA officials defended the current petroleum taxation framework while outlining the agency’s role in fuel imports, customs administration and revenue collection.
