Members of the National Assembly have this afternoon paid glowing tribute to the late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, Hon. David Njuguna Kiaraho, following his untimely demise, with Members honouring his legacy of service, professionalism, and dedication to the people.
The House commenced tributes with a moment of silence in honour of the departed legislator.
In a communication to the House, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetangβula, announced that Hon. Kiaraho passed away on Sunday, 29th March 2026 while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital. He described the late legislator as a devoted public servant whose death is a significant loss to Parliament, the people of Ol Kalou Constituency, and the country at large.
Hon. Kiaraho, a distinguished architect, joined elective politics in 2013 when he was first elected as the Member for Ol Kalou Constituency, a seat he held for three consecutive terms until his demise. During his tenure, he served in the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee.
Speaker Wetangβula noted that Hon. Kiaraho was instrumental in championing road safety, particularly for pedestrians.
βAs a Member of the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, he played a pivotal role in the processing of legislation aimed at safeguarding road reserves, as well as in the development of frameworks to facilitate the establishment of pedestrian walkways and infrastructure for non-motorised transport,β noted the Speaker.
He was also recognised for his commitment to improving education through bursaries and the provision of school buses, as well as advancing healthcare, agriculture, housing, and infrastructure development in his constituency.
To coordinate funeral arrangements, the Speaker announced the appointment of an Ad Hoc Parliamentary Funeral Planning Committee chaired by Hon. Kwenya Thuku.
In eulogising the late legislator, Members of Parliament described Hon. Kiaraho as a distinguished leader and an accomplished professional.
Embakasi West MP, Hon. Mark Mwenje described Hon. Kiaraho as a bold and outgoing leader who went out of his way to interact with everyone.
βHe was an expert in roads and infrastructure, and one you could consult freely, whether you were a junior or senior Member of Parliament,β noted Hon. Mwenje.
Gatanga MP Hon. Edward Muriu described the departed MP as a great man who had struck a balance between his role as a representative of the people and as a family man.
βWe have lost a great man who was able to balance the complex roles of being a beloved political leader, revered by his people, a loving family man, and an astute businessman,β said Hon. Muriu.
Dagoretti South MP, Hon. John Kiarie, noted that Hon. Kiarahoβs illustrious career as an architect extended far beyond the borders of Ol Kalou Constituency, leaving a footprint across the country.
βHis achievements as an architect can be felt all the way in Nairobi, where he advocated for proper city planning and helped curb unplanned development in areas such as Kilimani and the larger Dagoretti area,β stated Hon. Kiarie.
Githunguri MP, Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, in sending her condolences, described the passing of the legislator as a great loss not only to the people of Ol Kalou but to the entire nation.
Bureti MP, Hon. Kibet Komingoi, described Hon. Kiaraho as a diligent and dedicated member of the Transport Committee who championed the inclusion of pedestrian walkways in urban road design, particularly in Nairobi, noting that the legacy he leaves behind will be felt for years to come
Dagoretti North MP Hon. Beatrice Elachi, on her part, called for action against hospitals accused of misdiagnosing patients.
βIt is time this House comes together to enforce accountability in the medical sector and protect Kenyans who have suffered due to misdiagnosis by hospitals without any repercussions,β urged Hon. Elachi.
Hon. Kwenya Thuku, a close friend of the late MP and chairperson of the funeral planning committee, described him as amiable, humble, and loving, noting that he deserved a heroβs send-off. He assured the people of Ol Kalou that Parliament would leave no detail to chance in ensuring the late legislator receives a befitting send-off.
A requiem service for the late Hon. Kiaraho will be held on Wednesday , 8th April 2026 at Ol Kalou Stadium in Nyandarua County. The funeral service will take place on Friday, 10th April 2026 at PCEA St. Andrewβs Church in Nairobi, followed by his interment at his family farm in Tigoni, Kiambu County.
